Always happy to read your latest newsletter to catch up with what’s happening. I look forward to hearing what you learn on Wednesday in Milwaukee. Thank you.

I always recommend ARN to people. I say there are many good legal analysts, White, Littman, Weismann, Vladeck, etc, but for my money Adam is the best. I also point out he is always on with these others

Plus who else has on Epner and his dry sense of humor? He is always worth the price of admission

Adam,

Wishing you a successful legal reporting and analysis circuit ride out to Milwaukee. Hoping you’ll return with a Judge Dugan reinstatement.

Giddyup!

Thank you, and greetings from Milwaukee. I’ll have an update on oral arguments in the case tomorrow.

Joyce White Vance had a great line, “All the winning did not go so well last week.”

Was Todd Blanche ever a good lawyer or has he always been a bit stupid?

I saw Preet Bahara on with someone a little while back. Bahara hired Blanche in SDNY. I got the impression he was a good attorney

Unfortunately he has gone for the money and given up all semblance of ethics

I have heard nothing lately about Bahara but I always thought of him as upright and good. If what you say is true then I begin to think there may be no hope for honesty or integrity in the law.

Beryl, Bahara is on Substack. He does something once a week with Vance and Ellie Hoenig writes something once a week. The rest of the time it is Bahara writing or in discussion with someone

With a Blanche people can start off good or decent and go in the opposite direction

Though I didn’t agree with some of his politics Rubio was a good senator

Hegseth has his own (anger management) psychological (and drinking) problems and should be fired from his position. Perhaps an LGBTQ member of the military with many years of experience should replace him immediately.

Even Claude says:

Hegseth presents himself as the warrior-guardian of a heroic project — framed as uniquely courageous and historically unprecedented — while positioning critics as enemies of the mission. His core influence strategy is threat inflation paired with identity leverage: he repeatedly redirects factual questions toward an existential framing (nuclear annihilation vs. decisive action), making disagreement feel like civilizational failure of nerve. His affect oscillates sharply between triumphant enthusiasm and barely-contained contempt, suggesting a speaker who experiences scrutiny as an attack on his person rather than a feature of democratic governance.

Hegseth uses Black-and-White Thinking and Moral Absolutism. Hegseth consistently structures reality in binary terms. Under challenge, Hegseth's tone shifts rapidly toward contempt and indignation.

At the monthly prayer meetings Hegseth established at the Pentagon in May 2025, he reportedly prayed for “overwhelming violence” against “enemies of righteousness.”

Hegseth is often dismissive. He has poor affect regulation under conditions of perceived threat, particularly threat to his or his principal’s reputation.

Some very positive news after a slough of prevarication by Trump re: Iran. I am grateful for your tutelage in Law, Adam.
