No one should ever treat Democrats delicately. There are some excellent Democrats, but far too many, beginning at the top with Schumer and Jeffries are weak and more interested in their big money donors than in the welfare of constituents and the country. The first priority for the majority of representatives and senators is keeping their seats. First, as Trump was walking out, she pleaded with him that she had traveled all the way to Wisconsin. That was just silly, but what came next disgusted me. She came on later and said she had spoken with Trump and they had commiserated with each other about the disruptive weather. What? So what! Real journalists risk their lives in combat zones and don't whine about it. Then, Welker said that Trump had agreed to sit down with her again for another interview. BLEEP. Consider that bleep an endless string of expletives. After Trump characteristically lied his way through the interview, he not only condemned the major news outlets as "crooked," he went a step further and told Welker herself that she was either "crooked or stupid." Access is all that matters to Welker and others like her, and they will endlessly give Trump a platform to lie and spew nauseating insults and then pretend that all is well and normal and they'll do it all over again.
I think we all know that if a real journalist or a talking head like Welker ever really stood up to Trump and politely called him out for his deplorable behavior and personal insults, they would be fired. I would give a lot to hear any journalist say to Trump: "I don't know why you find it necessary to be be so offensive and call names like a schoolyard bully, but it is wrong and you should be ashamed of yourself. We can continue, but only if you agree to never again repeat the kinds of things you've been saying." There is nothing rude or disrespectful about that admonition, but if someone said that I have no doubt they'd be looking for a job.
I don't understand why Todd Blanche hopes to one day be disbarred. Maybe he hates being a lawyer. If so, my advice would be to quit the administration now, voluntarily relinquish his right to practice law, and disappear. I have to believe that he doesn't want to be disbarred, but his expectation may be that when he leaves the administration he will be independently wealthy and won't ever have to work again, so a license to practice law won't matter. Either that or he doesn't really believe he will ever be disbarred. And he may be right. We don't have a good record of holding people like him accountable.
Susan, concerning Welker, there are, I assume, very tight reins on news talking heads. if someone actually took Trump to task for his lies, laughable claims, and disgusting insults he or she would pay a heavy price. Imagine if someone said something like: "Mr. President, there is no reason for you to call names and insult people. It is rude and unbecoming for a person in your position."
I am fairly certain he or she would be severely censured by the network and quite possibly fired. It isn't exactly that Welker wants to be "liked," but the network expects her to be inoffensive so that Trump won't do what he did. Access is what matters to these organizations, not the truth or providing useful content. If such a thing ever happened, I assume the talking head would be interrupted and have to respond
What every organization's policy should be something like the following.
"Our policy here at XXX is that when an interview subject resorts to such behavior, we are told to end the interview and warn the subject that if there is another interview in the future and the interviewee resorts to such tactics again, the interview will end and that will be the last time the subject will be allowed to appear. I respectfully ask you to apologize for your behavior and refrain from behaving this way in the future."
We'll never see anything like that from our MSM.
In truth, her performance up until the end was more forceful by a lot than most of the interviews we will see with Trump. To her credit, she did keep telling Trump there was no evidence for his claims and she repeatedly asked Dumbass for evidence or proof of his accusations. The best he could come up with was a form of "I don't need no steenking [sic] evidence. All I have to do is consult my own moronic fantasies." OK, he didn't phrase it quite like that, but that was the gist of the content. Anything he doesn't like is crooked or treason.
As I wrote in my initial comment, where she failed was at the end, when access was threatened. Her bosses don't want Trump walking out on an interview. It made me sick when she came on and related what had happened subsequently. I'm sure she makes millions of dollars and she's not likely to threaten that by standing up to a thug and bully.
