I wish there was some way to interview these DOJ prosecutors to find out how they conceptualize their their behavior with the grand jury. As it’s described, it sounds like it’s just rank incompetence unfamiliarity with the parameters that prosecutors are supposed to operate within. To what extent do they recognize they are bending the rules and trying to Cherry pick their results? Are they just so incompetent that they’ve been brainwashed by the influence from the top? Are they being told to operate in this slapdash fashion? I’d really like to get more behind the scenes on this.
The misconduct is puzzling, and I do not see how an aide to Senator Durbin becomes involved in it to the extent [reported in public media] that Ms. M. has been. She shouldn’t become the scapegoat, but she did make it impossible to ignore her role in it. She participated.
I’ve lived in Chicago all my adult life, and I’ve watched the Northern District do a spectacular job of putting big name miscreants behind bars. So many former governors, so few prison cells left to fill!
Senator Durbin’s identity has always been closely allied with white bread, blanc mange, and other colorless, harmless things. It will be good to. have some life in that office again. But this seems beyond bland.
It’s all very puzzling.
