Justice Sotomayor called out the conservative supermajority for botching the message of "Uncle Bobby's Wedding." So did its author, in an interview with All Rise News.
It is striking to me how once again, SCOTUS has used a case about books to enforce religious and heterosexual conformity on America, against the US Constitution. In what convoluted, perverted place were the six radically-conservative, Constitutional-overturning justices raised?
All the gay couples I know have tons more love in their lives than any one of those Repugnant Justices. Children need to grow up with love, and it could not be more clear that these six justices missed out. What a bloody shame. They should get off the bench; they keep disqualifying themselves with hateful decisions.
I live in Montgomery County, Maryland. This is a mostly Democratic county, right wing groups swoop in and pick out a vulnerable minority to influence. Since this is a diverse county, they will encounter gay people, black people, asians, brown people, trans, and religiously faithful, disabled people everywhere they go. Too bad they did not see themselves as part of this diverse group. Their own faith is already targeted. And Alito is some kinda out of touch with the real world as it is today. And the rest of the right, who put religion first.
Of course it's always possible to construct an argument that supports one’s view point, no matter how much torturous twisting one has to do. But as I used to insist to literature students, Point to the text, which is precisely what Justice Sotomayor did and the conservative justices failed to do. Pretty disgraceful.
Apropos of Susan Y's comment, it seems we need to create a new identity group for the loveless bigots roaming the countryside for victims of their self-hate. They need help to become a little more human (actually, a lot more human). Can we start up a group to crowdfund their therapy? Self-Hating Emotional Retards need DEI to get them proper services. Otherwise, they'll never get anywhere.
Charley, these folks are not disabled or mentally challenged. They are historically challenged. This country was built on the backs of people that came before us, many who died for us, so we could pass along a country for the people, by the people. All the people, not just a few. And they should read the Constitution.
Much appreciated, Susan. I was a little over the top, expressing some of my own frustration. But it remains a truth in my mind that these folks are emotional cripples, very good at compensating through mimicking rationality to cover their latent violence. Let's use the word "rational" guardedly, as it's not a substitute for emotional maturity. It's not mentally challenged in the physical forms that can take, nor a reflection on logic -- that's intact, except that emotional self-mastery steers us toward the light, and they're missing out on that. Hannah Arendt famously referred to the banality of evil, and emotional crippling is the root, whether they tortured cats or not. You are quite right that they are historically challenged, in maybe a couple of senses of that phrase -- they are cribbed into interpretations that serve their insecurities, their need for a caste system to elevate themselves to a sort of external mastery that lies beyond their own inner personal self-mastery. Persistent neglect and abuse have permanently altered their cellular epigenetic structure, which has prevented them from completing normal neurological development to integrate their emotions properly.
