And I don't know many, who actually had to PRODUCE something in their work (engineer, doctor, plumber, grocery store checkout clerk, etc.), that could have. as you say "let accused criminals go free" the inept doj will use that as a mid-term election point to elect republicans only... goes back to the fear they instilled ofnthe magas by saying the "others" will go after them and steal kill rape... how do we work around that... keep the "criminals" in jail? any chance the judges can put these federal cases back to state cases?
Hey, Adam - I would assume most of your audience is "law" adjacent. This was a really great conversation. But as we talk about this to our neighbors and in our communities, I think it is important to talk about the WHY of the matter. Why should people care about this? This is what I came up with.
This isn’t some inside legal fight about process.
U.S. Attorneys make some of the most serious decisions in our system:
Who gets charged.
Who gets a deal.
Who goes to prison.
That’s power over someone’s life.
And just as important, they are responsible for seeking justice for victims.
The reason the Senate is involved is simple.
So those decisions aren’t handed out based on loyalty or convenience.
It’s the way we, as Americans, have a say in the quality and character of the people making those calls.
That’s not a formality.
I'd love to hear other people's thoughts on this. Sometimes we get too inside baseball - and forget the meaning of the game.
